Star Wars: Zero Company – EA’s New Turn-Based Strategy Epic Revealed

Electronic Arts (EA) has officially announced its next Star Wars title following a series of leaks. Titled Star Wars: Zero Company, the game is a single-player, turn-based tactics title currently in development by Bit Reactor in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games.

The announcement came via the official Star Wars website and EA, just days after key art and screenshots from the game surfaced online. Though full gameplay details remain under wraps, fans can expect the first look at Star Wars Celebration Japan on April 19.

Described as a bold step into tactical strategy within the Star Wars universe, Zero Company invites players to recruit an unconventional team of operatives and deploy them on unique missions across the galaxy.

“Recruit an unconventional team of operatives and deploy them on missions unlike any other in the galaxy far, far away,” reads the teaser description.

The game will be directed by Greg Foertsch, known for his work as art director on XCOM 2 and XCOM: Enemy Unknown, two of the most celebrated strategy games of the last decade. His involvement signals a serious commitment to authenticity within the tactics genre.

Zero Company is being developed in Unreal Engine 5, promising next-gen visuals, high-fidelity environments, and immersive battlefields. The game is being built for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Foertsch leads the design team at Bit Reactor, a relatively new studio with deep roots in strategy game design. His previous experience at Firaxis and his team’s pedigree place Zero Company on the radar of hardcore strategy fans and Star Wars enthusiasts alike.

Respawn Entertainment, widely known for its Star Wars Jedi series, is also collaborating closely on the title. While they’re currently developing the final chapter in the Jedi trilogy, their support on Zero Company ensures that narrative and character depth remain core elements.

Job listings for the development of Star Wars: Zero Company are already live. Open positions include Senior Mission Designer, Senior Graphics Engineer, and Senior Cinematic Producer — signaling that development is still in full swing.

According to these listings, Bit Reactor and Respawn are building a “AAA Star Wars strategy game,” one that seeks to “harness the power of Unreal Engine 5” and “bring a fresh take on strategy to a galaxy far, far away.”

The visuals shared in the key art depict a squad of uniquely styled operatives — hinting at a cast of original characters rather than relying solely on existing Star Wars icons. This creative choice could allow developers to expand Star Wars lore in meaningful new directions.

Additionally, EA emphasized that the game will be a purely single-player experience, a refreshing direction for a franchise that has at times leaned heavily into multiplayer formats.

The announcement comes at a time when Star Wars games are experiencing a resurgence. The Star Wars Jedi series has garnered critical acclaim and strong sales, while other titles like Star Wars Outlaws from Ubisoft are in development.

Zero Company also signals EA’s willingness to diversify its Star Wars portfolio by tapping into different genres. Strategy games, especially turn-based ones, remain relatively rare in the Star Wars universe, with past examples like Empire at War being fondly remembered.

Star Wars Celebration Japan will host a dedicated panel on April 19 at 4:30 PM JST (1:00 PM IST), during which developers will reveal the first gameplay footage, narrative elements, and possibly a release window.

This panel could be a defining moment for the game, potentially setting the tone for how strategy and tactical storytelling can exist within the broader Star Wars ecosystem.

EA’s decision to officially confirm the project now, rather than waiting until the April event, also reflects its commitment to transparency and fan engagement — especially important following the recent leaks.

Bit Reactor’s emerging reputation as a go-to studio for modern strategy gaming, combined with Respawn’s proven narrative excellence, sets a high bar for expectations.

As of now, no release date has been provided. However, with hiring still underway and development in progress, a 2025 launch window is a realistic estimate.

For now, fans of both Star Wars and the strategy genre can mark April 19 on their calendars for a deeper dive into this promising new title.
